Why Homecoming 08???

Some of us are pursuing our tertiary education, in polytechnics or universities. Some of the guys are serving their national service, either always outfield or guard duty. There are even some of us whom are already working, establised our career or even married and settled down. Then a question arises: Why should we go back to GVSS and have Homecoming 08 when we have our own life now? Why should we pay the $20 just to get sitted down in the quadrangle where I have been sitting there every morning for 4 or 5 years of my life listening to the same person saying ' alright, get settled down now'.

Indeed, this must be the ultimate question that come across most of our mind when we hear about Homecoming 08. Well, let me share with you some thoughts. With an additional $5, we probably can get into one of the best clubs around: MOS(they just closed down) or Zouk. $25 dollars and we can spend the entire night clubbing with our friends and drinking as though alcohol taste like coke or sprite. We have a whole night of laughter, fun and all sorts of funny funny situations which I shall not elaborate here. Nothing wrong with that... But is that all there is to life???

I mean those studying spend numerous amount of time on assignments and projects and study for never-ending tests. Those serving National Service spend their time marching, going for canteen breaks, going to the range, get excited about weekend because thats their only time of civilisation. Those working??? Spending 9 hours in the office and often too tired to go out for dinner and ending up at home resting and recuperating for the next day of hectic work again. I mean that is life for most of us.. Face it...

What about those carefree days?? When we spend time after school having lunch at Loyang Point Macs or having Blueberry Danish? When we change into our PE t-shirts and kick the soccer ball around the field? When we gossip about the latest couple in school and spend time getting ready for competition for or SYF??

For me, secondary school days were the most carefree and where I establish my most valuable friendships. (I still meet up with my secondary school friends regularly despite graduating from Greenview for 6 years). Not that there were no exams or test, but somehow, we always manage to find time to head down to Tampines Mall for some window shopping or simply to the nearest void deck to play street soccer (police came once, so don't try it any more). Those were the days full of fond memories and where I had the most fulfilling 4 years of my life.

Back to the question, why Homecoming 08??? Well, I sincerely believe that $20 is not really the reason stopping many of us from going back. (I can assure you that the Alumni is not making profits out of this event and $20 is simply just to cover cost). The real reason why we want to invite all ex-greenviewans back is to Reminiscence. To think back on your secondary school days and have a good laugh about all those stupid acts that you have committed and those foolish actions that have cause you severe punishment from Mr Tung or Mr Muhd. I am sure many of us have got fond memories back in Greenview. Be it crushing the girl from the class next door or appointed as CCA leader or doing well for your O levels. Homecoming 08 serves the purpose as a cue. A cue for you to bring back those silly yet funny memories for you.

Life after secondary school is stress. Polytechnic, NS, University or in the work force. therefore a good way to destress... Mark down on your calendar, 15th Nov, come back to Greenview for a reunion. Start calling your sec school buddies and come back together. have dinner, watch some performance, look at how Greenview have transformed over the years and even talk to some of your ex-teachers. Its a sat night, choose to chill and relax at Greenview. You can bring your partner(just have to get another ticket for him/her) and share with him/her about your secondary school days.

All right, getting a bit old and naggy, trust me for this though, you WILL NOT REGRET coming back for Homecoming 08. Get ready for Reminiscence II...
